Punta Cana, located at the furthest eastern point of the Dominican Republic, is one of those Caribbean destinations that is Instagram worthy and picturesque. It is filled with white sand beaches, turquoise water and luxury all-inclusive hotels. Just some of the reasons I love Punta Cana! I’ve been a few times now, for birthday’s, and enjoyed my stay each time. My friend Tracie and I both celebrated our birthday’s there at different times of the year. Between the perfect weather, delicious latin food, direct flights and affordability, it was the perfect destination for a group of friends, or family, to enjoy a getaway. If you are looking for an island getaway the Dominican Republic is a must-visit and these Punta Cana travel tips and resources will help you plan your trip.
I enjoy the convenience of all-inclusive hotels, especially when you are traveling with a larger group however there are several resorts in Punta Cana and the surrounding areas that offer great amenities. We stayed @secretsresorts and had the best time. While we were there we also checkout out Casa de Campo and Punta Cana Resort & Spa, which is a group of hotels and properties. If you prefer to have a little more space and privacy you can also opt for an Airbnb or VRBO, especially if you’re looking for a condo or house. There is also the option of using and collecting hotel points. I like to travel with hotel and credit card points as often as possible. If you are an SPG member The Westin is a great option with a fun cigar and rum bar called Don Queco.
From my experience the food was pretty delicious everywhere we ate especially the Carribean seafood plates at La Yola Restaurant. The restaurant is situated perfectly overlooking the harbor on the marina and is worth the dining experience just for the view. They have vegetarian and vegan options for those who do not eat seafood or meat and have dietary restrictions.
Bachata Rosa’s is a latin fusion restaurant that came highly recommended to us. The eclectic decor and music give you a real local feel that allow you to experience the culture. Bring your cameras because you will want to take photos of the art on all of the walls.
In Punta Cana great restaurants is just one of the many things to add to your itinerary. There are so many things to enjoy it’s difficult to narrow it down to only a few. I personally enjoyed Scape Park because of the amazing waterfall and zip lining. It’s a very unique adventure park but if you prefer theme parks checkout Manati Park. Most of our trip was spent relaxing at the beach, lounging poolside at the hotel, and enjoying a boat charter tour (definitely make a reservation), however, you should make time to see the ecological reserve at Puntacana Resort as well. Some of the other activities they offered that we didn’t have time for were scuba diving, Jeep safari 4WD tours, deep sea fishing, swimming with dolphins, horseback riding and several other adventure seeking activities. I’ll plan for those on our next trip!
Punta Cana is a great escape if you are looking for an affordable island getaway. I really enjoy going in June and July because of how amazing the weather is. Our trip was so much I can’t wait to go back. It’s safe to say my birthday did not disappoint and neither did my farewell massage at the day spa in our luxurious hotel before checking out.
Book your trip, meet the locals, dance to the wonderful latin music, take a catamaran tour and drink some rum! Just be sure to book enough nights to enjoy it all because you won’t want to leave.
